- First Quarter Update 2026
Preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ! Blessings We reported in our last newsletter that 2025 was our most fruitful year yet in the number of people who gave their lives to Jesus. So far in the first quarter of 2026 we have been blessed with 38 people saved and 131 who have followed Christ in believer’s baptism. There is much hard work that God blesses — faithful men and women who visit, drive boats, teach classes, and preach in village churches. It takes devoted servants to bring hundreds to church every week from more than 20 villages scattered across the most remote places in Guyana. We give thanks to God for the team He has raised up around us. Challenges The enemy continues to oppose the work. In one village we lost a young, up-and-coming preacher to another church group; our leaders are trained so well that other groups sometimes try to entice them away. Another up-and-coming leader lost his temper and now finds himself in trouble with the law. He is sidelined from ministry, but our desire is to walk alongside him and help him and his family through this season. In two villages our congregations are facing legal challenges to retain control of land despite the legal documents we hold. We also regularly confront false accusations — everything from claims that we are poisoning people to allegations that we are stealing children. Some of this suspicion remains from the stigma of the Jonestown tragedy of the late 1970s. Training In March we held another training session for our pastors and leaders. Men came from throughout the region to study and fellowship together; our focus was the Book of Acts. One blessing of these sessions is that pastors leave with study outlines they can use in their village churches — most use these notes in their weekly messages. Hosting these 2–3 day events require substantial logistics, but the reward is strengthened fellowship, unity, and sound doctrinal teaching that permeates our ministry. Furlough We are in a good season to take a short furlough. We will remain in weekly contact and continue mentoring leaders using available technology. This time will allow us to focus on our health, and on curriculum writing for our leadership training. The long-term goal is to give to our existing leaders a much more reproducible training program so that they can do more development on their own. Additionally, as we are physically away, it will help break some of the dependency that develops over time and encourage more independence from our leaders. We’ve already had the privilege of speaking at Trinity College’s missions emphasis week and reporting to several supporters. The ministry in Guyana is functioning well in our absence, as it should. We are grateful for all who pray for and support the work God is doing through our team. Prayer Pray for our pastors and leaders in Guyana as they continue to minister the Word each week. This time is a great opportunity to blossom on their own. Pray for victory in each of the challenges we have shared with you.Pray for guidance as we prepare the training materials that will be used throughout the ministry for years to come. Pray for the planning already underway for our July-August season of ministry. Pray for God’s wisdom and direction as we seek His face during furlough.

Preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ! Commissioning More Workers "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Isaiah's question is still valid, who will go for the Lord ? We are thankful for those willing hearts still tender to God who will say, "Here am I; I send me." We had the privilege to hold a special commissioning service in our Whitewater church to commission more than 20 to the gospel ministry. These men and women will fill important shoes in the work remaining to be done. The Only Hope Is Jesus In my more than 36 years of ministry, I don't know of any more painful and heart wrenching time than the death and funeral of a baby. At our Riverside church we stood beside a young family as they said their last good-byes to a child not yet 2 years old. The hope, the resurrection, and the power of the gospel is the only good news amidst the sorrow. Thank God for a believing mom and dad who will see their little one again! The Success of Missions People might define success in many ways, but in our world success is when we hand off the work to the men we have nurtured and trained. As many of you know, Romel grew up around our family like a 4th son. He has been with us for more than 26 years. Two weeks before Christmas we were thrilled to install him as the new Pastor of Riverside Community Baptist Church! This handoff has been carefully guided for more than a year now. The people already look up to him as a spiritual leader. The church is thriving and we pray Pastor Romel will grow along with the congregation as he takes on this great responsibility - at our largest village church. We are thankful for those who come from hours away in dugout canoes, but we are also thankful for our generous supporters who provided a new church boat for the Riverside ministry. The new boat will allow us to bring in 30-40 people. The dugout, seen below, is still a faithful mode of transportation to carry more than 30. 2025 Was Another Great Year! As we leave 2025 behind us and march boldly into 2026, Achieve Guyana has reason to celebrate and hope for a great year ahead. We had at least 342 professions of faith where people who were lost, and separated from God, trusted in the power of Christ and His gospel to give them eternal life. 65 people obediently followed the Lord in believer's baptism . Many of our pastors and leaders have been with us for decades. God has shined His favor upon us. Thank you for praying and thank you for generously supporting God's work in Guyana.

Preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ! Experiencing The Gospel Medical Outreach Changes Lives Part of our ministry mission statement declares that we exist to help people experience the gospel. Sounds good, but what does that really mean? The best way to understand that aspect of our mission is to look to the ministry of Jesus. If declaring the gospel as a mere list of Biblical truths (ie, the death, burial, and resurrection), then the New Testament Gospels would be very brief. However, the gospel is very relational and experiential. Jesus cultivated relationships and led people to experience God. To those who do not know God, the truth that God loves them is only a statement and it carries little weight. However, when people are touched by God’s love and see it expressed around them and toward them, the love of God for them personally becomes believable. Thanks to the ministry, Volunteers in Medical Missions, we were able to help nearly 1,400 people experience God’s love through an outreach in medical, dental, and optical assistance. The team of 17, from 4 different countries, saw hundreds of patients each day through the village clinics we offered over a 5 day period. We faced multiple setbacks and opposition from various sources. However, in the end our local pastors and churches were seen in a very positive light by offering help to anyone who came for help. The Impact of Our Ministry Partners We are acutely aware of the importance of our ministry partners. Whether it is a church or individual, the faithful support and prayers on our behalf are the fuel that runs the engine. To those who are a part of our team, you should know that we are enjoying the most productive year we have ever had in terms of the number of people who have been reached with the gospel. As of the end of September 314 people have passed from spiritual death to life! 63 have followed Christ in believer’s baptism . Our total since January of 2021 is now 1,414 saved and 392 baptized. Dozens of faithful preachers, teachers, and other leaders serve faithfully each week to keep the gospel advancing in the darkest places. First Grandchild! Greg and Wendy are excited to announce the birth of their first grandchild, Adeline Ruth. She was born healthy and beautiful on September the 11th, in upstate New York. Her parents are Josiah and Norlisa, Greg and Wendy's middle son and his wife.
